Friends and Family Pre-Sale

In appreciation of our family and friends helping us through prayers and donations, we are going to have a PRE-SALE DAY just for you!

Thursday, April 7, 2011
6 pm to 8 pm
1029 Dorset Drive
Hendersonville, Tennessee
One mile from Beech High School
in Somerset Downs' subdivision
Please feel free to bring a friend too!

As most of you already know, I sometimes get the attitude of "I can do it all by myself," because I never want to ask for help. I am throwing that out the window! HELP!

We have been blessed with an abudance of items to sell, and I really need help overseeing the sale. If anyone can assist me on Friday, I would be incredibly grateful! Please email me at and let me know.

Also, we would truly appreciate the following donations:
  1. Brown paper bags from the grocery store (not the plastic ones). We are going to have a table full of clothes. The special will be "Fill a brown bag full of clothes for only $5!"
  2. Baked Goods. Our children are going to have a "Drinks and Goodies" stand on Saturday only to help bring their new sister home.
Hope to see you and your friends at the Pre-Sale!

Happy Tears

My Mom and sister-in-law, Denise, were at our home today helping me price items for our upcoming Adoption Yard Sale when I received a call from our church. It was Maribeth Burns telling me to check out Facebook. I immediately knew why!

I saw a post earlier in the day from Charlie Hagood. It read:

Just landed on a dirt/gravel runway where they had to
honk the horn to clear out the goats and kids!
Quote of the day from Lovingood,
"Boys, I'm gonna have to check my britches!"
I'm laughing too hard.

I replied to his post:

Charlie...sounds like you are in Jeremie.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell Beatrice (Lance knows
who she is) that Trey and I love her very much and we are
working VERY HARD to bring her home with us in the
United States. They haven't moved her to PAP yet, so I'm
sure she is worried that we have forgotten about her.
Also, I would soooooo appreciate a picture of our daughter.

Four hours later, Maribeth called. She was looking at pictures of our daughter! I ran to the computer and just started crying. I think Christian was worried, because I heard my Mom explaining to him that they were "happy tears." So, I'm sure you want to see the pictures too!

Charlie's Comment:
She followed me everywhere after I showed her
Cindy Emerson's Facebook. Little Beatrice.
Dr Jordan treated a little sore on her shoulder.

Charlie's Comment:
Little Beatrice waving at the Emersons.
She asked, "you know my mamma Cindy?"
I said yes, and she threw both arms
around me and smiled a big ole smile'

I called Trey at work and he was able to share this moment with me as well. We both sat on the phone just crying together. This was our first opportunity to communicate with her since we left Haiti last month. Trey LITERALLY cried his right contact out. He had to get his nurse to help him find it on the floor.

Thank you, Lord, for this amazing and unexpected blessing!

Used Cell Phones, PDA's & Inkjet Cartridges Help Our Adoption

You can support our adoption by donating
your used cell phones/pda’s and
inkjet cartridges while helping save
the environment from toxic waste.

This is a PERFECT fundraiser! There is nothing to purchase. You simply donate those unwanted cell phones/pda's and ink cartridges that are just hanging out in your drawers.

It's a WIN-WIN! You will be giving old technology new life and keeping it from polluting our landfills while supporting our adoption.

How can you help?
  • Donate your cell phones/pda’s and inkjet cartridges.
  • Share our story with your friends, family and co-workers.
  • If you work in a busy office or a big retailer, please consider placing a collection box asking people to drop off their unwanted cell phones/pda's and ink cartridges. I can send you a flyer explaining our adoption.
  • This is even great for those of you who live out-of-state!

Please contact me at or by phone at 615-417-3377 if you  have any questions, want to receive a flyer or have items for me to pick up.

Thank you!

Final Home Study Session - CHECK!

Yesterday was CRAZY! CRAZY! CRAZY! Let me STRESS...I do NOT like being late for anything. I left our home at 4:15 pm to stop by the post office to mail a package, pick up Taylor and Kevin from Lori, pick up Trey from work and then head to our second Home Study visit by 6 pm. Plenty of time! Well...what I didn't calculate was the absurd amount of traffic! We arrived 45 minutes late!!! Seriously??? 2 HOURS and 45 MINUTES in the car from Hendersonville to Nashville and then to Smyrna! Satan was certainly attempting to throw us a "road block!"

Kelly, our social work, graciously made this appointment on a Friday evening to allow Taylor and Kevin to be interviewed. This took away from her own family time, and we felt horrible. Kelly accepted our apologies and was very kind to us all. Shewwwwww!

Trey and I had one-on-one interviews with Kelly before she interviewed Taylor and Kevin together. Taylor was shy for about 30 seconds, and then she couldn't contain her excitement about her new sister coming. We even had to ask her to stop talking when it was Kevin's turn. Ha!

Kevin proudly spelled his middle name for Kelly (D-A-V-I-D), and shared that his favorite thing to do was play XBox 360. He said he wanted to share his toys with his new sister, and was going to teach her how to play golf.

Both kids were AMAZING, and we were SO PROUD of them!

We should receive the home study report in two to three weeks. At that point, we will be able to start applying for adoption grants and sign up with the ABBA fund. All donations to the ABBA fund are tax-deductible AND our church is matching up to $1,500 in donations! $1,500 = $3,000!!!! I'll let everyone know when that account is open.

In cleaning out our home for items to sell in our yard sale, I found a gift card to the nail salon. Taylor and I are leaving now for a manicure. Yahooooo!!! Girl time!

Home Study Session #1 is Completed

It's been a couple of weeks since I have blogged. Quite honestly, it's been stressful trying to get everything together. The paperwork is massive! It got to the point where I just looked at it all and saw one huge haystack. It was impossible for me to see one individual piece of straw. Absolutely overwhelming!

As hard as it was for me to ask for help, I did. I emailed Erica Ho, our church's adoption coordinator, and she immediately came over to our home. Oh, how I love her! We sat down at our dining room table and looked at the papers. Erica started going through everything. I sat there and started tearing up. I thought "No! I'm not going to cry," so I sucked it up and put on the determined look.

Within a couple of hours, Erica had everything in order, and a game plan written for me. I LITERALLY couldn't stop smiling! Why hadn't I asked for help before then?

Fast forward to this morning at 9 am. We had our FIRST HOME STUDY with Kelly, our social worker.

I have to share this story first. Austin, our 13 year old son, asked if he could make breakfast for us this morning. Of course I said yes! He can make the BEST scrambled eggs in the country! Yum! Yum! After we were all bathed and ready, Austin came downstairs in a white shirt and tie! He was dressed to impress! Even his answers to Kelly's questions were impressive! Wow! Our son is an impressive Godly young man. We are so proud of him!

Another young man we are proud of is Christian, our 16 year old son. He showed outstanding maturity in answering Kelly's questions intelligently from his heart. It's wonderful to see how God moves in the hearts and minds of His covenant children.

Our entire session with Kelly was incredible, and we could really sense God's presence. Thank you so much to everyone for covering us in prayer. We feel like we are one step closer to having Beatrice sit at the very same table for a welcome home dinner someday soon.

The second and final Home Study session is this Friday at 6 pm. Kelly will be interviewing Trey and I individually, and then Taylor and Kevin. Please continue to remember all of us in your prayers as we finish this important phase of the adoption process.

With much love,
Trey and Cindy
